Meet The Owner of Essential Derma: Catherine Wilson

Today, we're meeting Catherine Wilson. She is the owner of Essential Derma which is one of Australia's best when it comes to microneedling home devices.

Let's find out who Catherine is and how she got started in the beauty industry.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

My name is Catherine Wilson and I'm the owner of the online skincare store Essentialderma.com.

We sell a range of microneedling home devices and skincare serums to help people with things such as anti-ageing, acne scars, stretch marks and hair growth.

I've always been someone obsessed with skincare and beauty, although I didn't think I'd start my own business.

What's your go-to skincare product that you think everyone should have?

Hyaluronic Acid Serum! I think it does wonders for the skin and it's suitable for almost everyone.

I can't remember a day I didn't apply it multiple times.

If you could only offer one type of treatment in your business, what would it be and why?

Microneedling (skin needling).

I honestly think this treatment is amazing, it's like a natural way of forcing your body to produce more collagen which means over time your skin is turning over faster and you get the soft babyface feel.

What's the most common skincare myth you wish people would stop believing?

That more is better!

I find that the more you do to your skin, the less results you get.

Depending on the type of treatment, you really need a decent amount of rest period so that your skin can recover and come back more healthy than ever.

What's your personal skincare routine like?

My routine is honestly quite basic which surprises some people.

This is a list of things I do:

  • Derma roller (1mm) - Once per month
  • Ice my face - Daily
  • Hyaluronic Acid Serum - Daily
  • Moisturiser - Daily

That's basically it.

Every now and then I'll splurge on an advanced treatment like Bio-Remodelling or a nice facial but other than that I like to keep things simple.

What's the most extravagant or luxurious treatment you've ever tried or offered?

Bio-Remodelling is the most expensive treatment I've tried.

I do think it is worth it but it is an advanced treatment that probably isn't needed by most people unless your wallet can afford it.

What beauty or skincare trend are you most excited about right now?

I follow a lot of trends in Asia and some of the treatments they're experimenting with are showing some amazing results.

These aren't yet legal in Australia, so I'll keep them secret until they're approved by the TGA 😉

Have you ever had a beauty treatment go hilariously wrong? Do tell!

We've had customers who purchased 30ml skincare serums ask us how much they should eat each day.

We make it very clear that you should apply them to your skin, not consume them 😅

If you were stranded on a desert island, which three skincare products would you want with you?

Oh wow, that's a tough one. I'm a massive overthinker so I'd be worried more about the element's effect on my skin rather than the benefits of the skincare products.

I'll go with; good 50+ sunscreen, hyaluronic acid and perhaps something like aerogard (not really skincare) for protection from insects.
